Why Worry About Framing Your Images

Framing your images is important! If you have images that you purchased, you don't want them ending up in the closet somewhere. Don't put off hanging them on your walls. Images are expensive and that would be a waste of money. You also don't want all those memories hiding away in boxes where you and others can't enjoy them! So let's see how to frame your images in the best way!

Framing Helps Your Images to Last Longer

As a long time photographer, I've done research into how to frame images. I know that there are many options for framing and hanging them. But, I just wanted to give you a few tips on what not to do with your images. You want them to last as long as possible, and there are some things you should be aware of before framing and hanging them.

Framing Your Images - With or Without Glass

I often tell my clients not to put glass over their images. If you order them with a styrene or gatorboard backing, you can just insert them into the back of a glassless frame and tack them in.

If you want to, you can also cover the back with paper to hide the tacks, but this is not necessary. From the front you won't see the tacks anyway. Adding the paper is a finishing step.

If you want to put glass on the front of the picture, you should put a mat between the image and the glass. Otherwise, humidity will get between the glass and the image and cause the image to stick to the glass. The result is that if you ever want to change the image out, it won't come out without tearing it. It will be ruined!

Adding one or two mats makes the image looks so much more professional. And is better for the life of the image.

Frame Your Image - Learning about Frame and Mat Size Chart

Here's a tip about the sizes of the image compared to the mat and frame size.

Another option, if you don't want to bother with a frame is to order a canvas gallerywrap. These are constructed "ready to hang", and save you work and the expense of adding a frame.

To protect photos from UV damage, avoid direct sunlight and keep valuable artwork away from high-humidity rooms where moisture could seep into the frame
